Getting Inked

The phrase "Body Art" fascinated me for quite sometime. It was those days when I used Orkut for online social networking. There used to be a column: Body Art. I could never fill it as I had none.

Some people would fill that information as tattoo. Coming from a typical Indian middle-class family I had hardly seen anyone with a tattoo. I often wondered what a tattoo was like.

When I started working, I came across a few people who had tattoo. There would be casual conversations what the tattoo was like, did it pain, and most important, how much did it cost?

The people gave varied answers. The location of tattoo would decide how much it would pain, the size would decide the cost etc. etc. But I heard no one talking about anything about the designs.

I had read sometime that doodles are the interpretations of ones hidden desires. I am not sure why, but I felt tattoo also represented same.

Then, I started looking around. I found someone at work place, who has tattooed Ronaldinho on his forearms. I was curious to know why, he said, he loved Ronaldinho.

Then, a famous actor had tattooed his son's name on his back. People said what a lovely expression of love.

Well, then I decided I would get one done on my shoulder whenever I would go to Goa for first time. Having never traveled to the land the craziness, I had marked my agenda with the craziest thing I thought I would do.

I didn't know when I would reach Goa. Somehow, as God has always been kind to me, he soon arranged for a quick trip to Goa, with a few friends.

There I was, in the land of Craziness! Booze & beaches marked my weekend. Well, I had an fixed agenda, I had to get a Tattoo done. Fortunately, I found one studio near the resort. I was ready to get inked.

The only question here was, what to ink on myself? It was going to be permanent, had to portray Me in a small picture. So, thats what the answer was to my curiosity, A tattoo is a representation of one's personality.

The tattoo artist at Palolem Beach, was showing me designs, Nothing was really impressive.

It was a shame for a quick shopper to look into 4 books and not being able to finalize anything. And then, I saw a raw design lying on his counter. It looked like a imperfect butterfly and more or less resembled a moth... That's me, perfectly imperfect.

Days passed by, felt like life was on a super highway and then again, I was going down. My life is a representation a perfect cardiogram. When it goes up, its like I am touching the skies, and when it goes down, its like I am drowning in the ocean.

I somehow managed to get myself back on surface of the ocean, the need to boast that a next phase of life has begun is getting stronger in me. Who would interpret it better than a flower on a creeper? So there comes my another tattoo on my ankle. It also has a butterfly, to interpret that with the lessons learnt, I am now a butterfly, though not perfect, but definitely more improved.
